Airush Lithium Zero 18m 2014
The Airush Lithium Zero 18m is a kite designed for light winds from 5 to 12 knots. It has an inflatable leading edge but no struts. I was able to buy one of the first of these kites available in Australia from The Zu Boardsports in Melbourne.
Its big! The kite weighs about the same as a 10m kite with struts, which is remarkable. The light weight contributes to fast turning for its size.
The leading edge curves up at each wingtip to enable easy water relaunching.
It really wants to fly. Be careful leaving it on the beach leading edge down, even with sand on the canopy. The absences of struts means the wind doesn't blow the kite down to keep in on the sand.
The kite launches and flies smoothly. There are no surprises other than its obvious power. However, the large diameter bladder on the leading edge doesn't help its upwind ability.
The kite has massive power and lift. You are likely to be overpowered if you take it out in winds stronger that 12 knots.
Going upwind is a challenge at the upper end of its wind range - trimming the kite (full depower) helps. We recommend that you don't buy this kite if you are a beginner.
